 India won ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

India beat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets to win ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. The crucial final match was held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, April 2, 2011. Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and elected to bat first. They made 274/6 in 50 overs. Mahela Jayawardene (*103) scored the highest runs for Sri Lanka.
Sangakkara (48), Dilshan (33), Kulasekara (32) and Thisara Perera (*22) also helped the team to reach the impressive total. Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh got 2 wickets each. Harbhajan Singh picked up 1 wicket. Chasing 275 to win, India lost 2 wickets early. Virender Sehwag backed to the pavilion without scoring a run. Sachin Tendulkargot out for 18.
Gautam Gambhir (97) and Virat Kohli (35) kept the hope alive. After the dismissal of Kohli’s wicket India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni made a superb knock of unbeaten 91 off 79 balls and helped the country to win Cricket World Cup after 28 years. Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga picked up 2 wickets. Perera and Dilshan took 1 wicket each. Dhoni got Man of The Match award and Yuvraj Singh won Man of The Tournament trophy.
